Hang loose, hang ten, hang with The Safes this fall with energizing album Tasty Waves.
As the cold weather creeps upon us, Tasty Waves is the perfect release to keep you reminiscent of summer. Playing it anything but safe, the indie pop-rock quartet hailing from Chicago just dropped their second full-length release.
The Safes go back to the beach
Called “simple but mesmerizing pop” by Pitchfork, Tasty Waves is an immaculate fuzzy garage collection of summer vibes and catchy choruses. If you love dancing to fun guitar riffs and great drum parts, this is the album for you. Every song fits the record perfectly, never falling short of the best beach vibes.
In addition, lyrically, the record is a wild ride. Not only criticizing life and relationships to nonchalant advice-giving, The Safes included word choice that invites thought and light-hearted laughter. In the light of not being afraid to have a little fun, the playful connotation of the lyrics throughout the album keeps up with the theme.
The music video for the lead single, “Hometown”, keeps the light weight of the album while hitting the eclectic rhythm of the band. Through hand-drawn animation, audiences get to see a love story that takes place in the band’s hometown.
Just being themselves has proved to be highly successful for The Safes. Comprised of siblings Frankie and Patrick O’Malley, drummer Dex Fontiane, and Curt Schmelz on bass, the group has been praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, NPR Music, and The Washington Post. Seems like the nation can’t get enough of their infectious sound. Tasty Waves is sonically cohesive by and large, not one song or chord out of place.
Catch The Safes on tour this fall and join the beach party. Be sure to take a look at the stellar album art too as you jam out with the crowd! I can’t wait to catch their closing show at Beat Kitchen.
